Happy Feet (2006)

Happy Feet tells the tale of an emperor penguin, Mumble that cannot sing his heart song to attract a mate. For that reason, Mumble was alienated from the rest of the penguins. Although he cannot sing, he can tap dance brilliantly.


This movie doesn’t only focus on the positivity Mumble had despite being sidelined, but also on environmental issues. It highlights climate change which might result in the extinction of  emperor penguins, pollution and the abuse of natural resources, in this case, commercial fishing. 


This movie teaches us to look after the world and help do our best to protect the environment.





Coco (2017)

Miguel loves music and idolises Ernesto de la Cruz. However, it is forbidden in his family that there should be any music of any sort. Coco, his grandmother suffers from memory loss and is unable to speak properly. 


Miguel is determined to prove his musical talent, which brings him to the Land of the Deaths. There, he uncovers events that reveal the reason for the ban on music in his family.


In this story, the message of hope, passion and  family history is prominent. It also highlights the importance of family background and teaches expression in art form with vivid colours and catchy music. 





Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa (2008)

Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippopotamus, and Melman the giraffe are excited to hear that the plane is about to land in New York City until they notice it is crash landing in the middle of the African Savannah.

Alex, named as "The King of New York," disappoints his father when his lack of fighting skills. When the watering hole starts to dry up and the new Alpha Lion Makunga is unconcerned about his subjects. Alex decides to discover the source of the problem, while Melman bravely volunteers to try King Julian's insane idea to rebuild the watering hole. 

The two friends set off a series of events that lead in a happy ending for both of them. This movie showcases a simple story about the importance of friendship and self-sacrifice. 






Moana (2016)

Moana is a strong-willed daughter of a chief of a Polynesian village. She sails out on a mission to save her people. During her journey, Moana meets the once demigod, Maui, who guides her in her quest to become a master way-finder. 


They sail together across the open ocean on an action-packed voyage. Along the way, Moana fulfills the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she always looks for which is her own identity.  


This movie teaches us to have the patience that is always beneficial to us. It also shows the civics that family relationships are important. 





Police Patrol (2013)

Radar is a VW Bug Police Car. During a power outage in the tiny village he patrols, he is struck with electricity by an errant power line after rescuing the villages and becomes an electric car. While playing with his friend Dottie the Otter, Radar gets stuck in the river but manages to escape as the river begins to dry up mysteriously. 


Investigating further, Radar discovers that two evil brothers are behind the drying river as they seek to privatize the village's water supply. Meanwhile, the arrival of the princess distracted the village's attention. They did not notice the dry water and high temperature. Radar must stop the brothers' wicked plan and convince his fellow police officers and citizens that the water must remain in public hands.


The film's message should resonate with those concerned about the use and abuse of our planet's water, air, and land. We should encourage discussion with children about the importance of protecting our resources.





Arctic Tale (2007)

Arctic Tale is a National Geographic film narrated by Queen Latifah. The movie follows the beginning lives of a polar bear cub, Nanu, and a walrus pup, Seela. The story takes us along their journey from birth to maturity, eight years later, with all the struggles in-between. 


The mothers will do anything to protect their young from other predators in this life or death struggle. ​The biggest threat for Nanu and Seela is surviving the harsh, changing habitat climate of the north who delivers the possibility of not finding food. The ice kingdom which has given them life is melting away in front of them. This movie teaches us the importance of saving our earth and protecting the environment.





Finding Dory (2016)

Finding Dory is an adventure film. Dory is an amnesiac fish and she can only remember she became separated from her parents. This film tells the journey of Dory to reunite with her parents.


This movie also brings an environmental message. It teaches us about the importance of protecting the ocean and its creatures. There is a scene about the touch pool in an aquarium. From a different perspective, the fish are horrified when they are touched by humans, especially children.


Adults should teach children not to touch the fish although there is a touch pool. Aquariums will stop offering the touch pool if there is no one interacting with the fish. Besides that, there is also a scene about Dory arriving at a bay polluted with trash and she was entangled by plastic. From this, we will learn that we should not throw any trash into the ocean because the ocean creatures may get tangled in the trash and the ocean will be polluted.





WALL-E (2008)

WALL-E is a science-fiction romantic comedy film. This film is talking about WALL-E, the last robot left on Earth. However, he is visited by a robot called EVE. He falls in love with her and pursues her across the galaxy.


This film also has a strong environmental message. The film starts after the destruction of life on Earth. It shows a place with mountains of rubbish. WALL-E is programmed to clean up the Earth. This film portrays the outcomes if all the natural resources in the world are running out and shows how human behavior harms the environment. It teaches us about the importance of protecting the environment.





Dr. Seuss' The Lorax (2012)

The Lorax remains a staple of children’s reading lists for its whimsical characters and wonderful Seussical wordplay. Its cautionary message is as relevant today as ever. Having respect for the environment and all living things will help us protect the planet for ourselves and future generations. Such respect can coexist harmoniously with economic development. As we prepare to celebrate another Earth Day, this fable rings true.


Dr. Seuss's The Lorax in a very colorful and humorous way, shows children what can happen if we don't protect our natural resources. 





FERNGULLY - THE LAST RAINFOREST (1992)

Join Crystal, a tree fairy, and Zac, a human, as they work together to fight the destruction of the rainforest. Children will enjoy the excitement and get a better understanding of why it's important to protect our forests. 


In this movie, we can see that the fairies are struggling to make sure everyone is safe and their homes are not in danger. Some people take the environmental problems lightly because they do not understand the importance of having green forests. 


Everyone has the responsibility to not leave litter everywhere, planting trees, and using public transportation instead of one's own. We must avoid excessive consumption and the deliberate disposal of post-consumption waste resources, which could otherwise be recycled and thus pollution controlled.





ICE AGE (2002)

"Ice Age" is a fully digital animated film produced by Blue Sky Studios in 2002 and released by 20th Century Fox Films. It is the first in the "Ice Age" series.


The story of "Ice Age" revolves around three prehistoric animals from the Ice Age and an abandoned human infant. The ice age caused animals to migrate in search of food. Mammoth-Manfred, Sloth-Sid, Saber-toothed Tiger-Diago, are the three animals with different personalities. In order to bring a human child back home, they got together to form a temporary escort team and embarked on a long journey to find relatives.


Along the way, the conflicts between these three animals were reborn. Diago had a vicious plan and wanted to lead the team into a deadly ambush set by his own race. After they experienced countless dangers such as avalanches and famines related to the harsh environment, the experience made Diago shake his plan.




Disneynature’s Oceans (2010)

Though a bit more subtle than some of the other films on this list, Oceans still makes an impact. A documentary released on Earth Day in 2010, the film explores the underwater world that covers three-quarters of our planet.


While it spends much of its time depicting the wonderful and beautiful life forms that the oceans have to offer, the documentary doesn’t miss its chance to show the negative effects human actions can have on wildlife and urge viewers to respect nature.
